UPDATE: Photo of man in plastic painter’s suit robbing Chase Bank in Palos Verdes Mall

UPDATE: Here’s the photo of the robber, in the painter’s suit and brandishing a Taser, who robbed Chase Bank in Palos Verdes mall Friday afternoon.

Hmm. This scary photo looks like something out of a post-2010, -apocalyptic cautionary tale.
Anyway, Walnut Creek police are looking for a man, brandishing a Taser gun, who robbed the Chase Bank Friday afternoon. It was the second robbery at Chase in the last two months.

Police say the man entered the bank at about 2:48 p.m. Friday, approached a teller, pointed a Taser at the teller and other employees, and demanded cash.

The man took an undisclosed amount of cash, as well as property belonging to other employees. He left the scene in a white Toyota minivan with a dark-colored roof rack. An eagle-eyed witness spotted the license plate, and reported that it was similar to 5AGW668.

Police searched the area, but couldn’t find the robber.

The robber is described as a white male, about 30 years old, 5 foot 8 to 6-feet tall, about 175 pounds and with an average build. During the robbery, he was wearing a white plastic painter’s suit, dark baseball cap, white painter’s hat and orange-tinted sunglasses.

This bank in the Palos Verdes mall was also robbed on January 19.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Walnut Creek Police Department at (925) 943-5844.

  1. That's the bank that I bank at quite often. They need to do something about that bank branch. It is deserted most of the day, so that is probably why it is a target.

They should install bullet proof glass. Statistics show that banks that have bullet proof glass get robbed the least.

The fact that this bank has been robbed before, shows that it is getting ridiculous. It just means that more money is going into the hands of criminals. It needs to be stopped. The bank needs to take action or else they will just get robbed constantly.

  2. Easy access to the 24 freeway and mostly deserted during the day, as already mentioned. Perfect target. They should either close it or make an effort to harden it.

  3. Palos Verdes has been upgraded very well, in spite of the economic climate. Once other new businesses move in, these incidents will be reduced.

I'm glad that the webcams and witnesses on-site will help catch the perps. It's my neighborhood. We love shopping and dining in Palos Verdes.

  4. For 2009, according to statistics, no bank employees or customers were killed in the course of a bank robbery in the US. However, 21 bank robbers were killed during robberies. Yes, 21 bank robber corpses. They were all killed by security guards or by police. You will surprised to know that the police usually arrive within minutes of alarms being activated. Once the bank robber leaves the bank, they are fair game to be shot.

Statistics show that the number of bank robberies has actually decreased since 2003. The number of dead bank robbers increases each year. Robbers should think twice before they even consider robbing a bank.
